On Friday, Therese met the County Council Cabinet member for highways, Cllr Paul West, to discuss Potters Bridge. Officers from the County Council and the Environment Agency had met earlier that day.
Therese said: "I was reassured that both bodies are working jointly on options to help alleviate flooding on this section of the B1127 by clearing and jetting highway drainage and cutting channels into the verge to help water drain away when there is heavy rain or a tidal surge. This builds on the Environment Agency's ongoing efforts to keep the channel clear at the beach following my request that they use the powers available to them under the Water Resources Act."
"A previous failure from the landowners to provide access, meant that the EA had to serve formal notices and obtain a Magistrates’ Court Warrant to access the land. In November, they reinstated the channel ensuring water drains from the broad to the sea. At the time the EA said that storm surges or heavy rainfall may still create road flooding but the duration of which should be significantly reduced. I know how important this road is and will keep pressing."
