Therese has welcomed the range of measures unveiled by the government this week to prevent the spiking of drinks over the festive period and in the future. They include coordinated police action to crack down on drink spiking during key weeks of the year; training for door staff; better education for young people and changes to the Criminal Justice Bill to strengthen the law.
Therese said: “Drink spiking is an abhorrent crime and although already illegal, the government is amending the legislation to make the offence more explicit, protecting women and girls. I hope this sends a clear message to would-be perpetrators that giving someone any drug without that person’s consent can result in a criminal conviction.”
