"I have today written to the Prime Minister to step down from government. It has been a privilege to serve him and indeed five Prime Ministers as a minister.
In my role as Secretary of State for DEFRA, I’m particularly pleased to have published our Environmental Improvement Plan, launch our Plan for Water to reduce storm overflows and help secure the Global Biodiversity Framework in Montreal as well as the fund to deliver it.
During my time at the Department of Work and Pensions, I ensured that the welfare system continued to support people throughout the pandemic, helped people back into work and introduced the Kickstart programme to get young people into employment for the first time.
During my time as Health Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister, I was pleased to unveil our Plan for Patients and work swiftly to protect the vulnerable last winter.
I look forward to continuing to serve my constituents of Suffolk Coastal – and crucially now being able to speak in Parliament on a broad range of subjects affecting the constituency."
