Therese has warmly welcomed the statement from the Health Secretary today that the rebuild of the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth will be prioritised as part of the government’s £20bn New Hospital Programme.
The James Paget, which serves many Suffolk residents, is one of several hospitals that have significant amounts of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete, a lightweight type of concrete used to construct parts of the NHS estate in the past but has a limited lifespan.
Therese said: “I’m pleased that the Health Secretary has reconfirmed the government’s intention to rebuild the James Paget hospital as part of today’s announcement and I’m delighted it will be further prioritised to be completed by 2030. As we approach the 75th anniversary of our NHS, this extra investment is the perfect present for patients.”
