Therese has today received assurances from the Environment Agency that they intend to take legal action to gain access to land adjacent to the B1127 to relieve flooding at Potters Bridge. The road flooded again this week after torrential downpours.
Having visited the site in October and planned to start works this month, the Environment Agency has been frustrated by difficulties in obtaining permission from the landowner. However, during a conversation with Therese, the EA’s Area Director, Simon Hawkins today pledged to use powers available to them as part of the Water Resources Act.
Therese said: “I understand the frustrations of constituents who have contacted me on this issue. It is clear the current situation is far from satisfactory, which is why I have asked the Environment Agency to expedite proceedings. I’m pleased to have received a commitment that they will start those within the next week. Once they gain access, I have been assured they will quite quickly be able to dig a channel to allow water to drain out to sea.”
