The Government has today launched its proposals on tougher sentencing and reducing re-offending.
Therese said: "We have two prisons along the Suffolk coast who do a great job of rehabilitation and preparing offenders to re-enter society. However, judges and local law enforcers often are limited in the kinds of sentencing that can be applied. Compassionate rehabilitation is important but so is a sense of justice for victims and society."
"Our proposals will, therefore, ensure the most serious violent and sexual offenders get the prison time they deserve, including whole life orders for child killers, while new community interventions and changes to rules around criminal records will help boost rehabilitation and cut reoffending."
