The Prime Minister confirmed last night that non-essential retail shops will be able to reopen again on the 15th June. Our councils and businesses are already preparing for this including helping to manage, as much as possible, effective social distancing and queues.
To help with this East Suffolk Council has been awarded £222k from the Government as part of the £50m Reopening High Streets Safely Fund. This money has been provided to support a range of practical safety measures including new signs, street markings and temporary barriers.
Therese said: "Crucially for our part of the country this fund also covers other public spaces like beachfronts and promenades. The health of our High Streets is really important to all of our communities up and down the coast - and businesses have adapted during the lockdown period to continue to serve customers in innovative ways. I would encourage you to continue to support our small and independent businesses when town centres reopen. They need your custom more than ever. I understand people will need to feel safe to keep them coming back and that is what this fund is all about."
