We are moving into the next phase of how we as a country are tackling coronavirus. The PM has set out steps for this month, June and July. The two key metrics that will inform the government's decisions on these next steps on gradually easing the lockdown regime are the transmission rate R and the number of new infection cases.
We know the risk of transmission is much lower outdoors so the next step focuses on outdoor activities, including leisure. We will assess what happens to the metrics before giving the go-ahead for the next set of measures in June.
The government has now published guidance and also Questions & Answers which I hope you find helpful. The Prime Minister has also given a statement to Parliament today, followed by questions from many MPs.
