Therese has welcomed a £435k Government grant designed to help tackle homelessness in East Suffolk, saying that it will have a significant impact locally.
The Ministry of Housing have confirmed that from April, East Suffolk Council will receive £435k from Government, made up of a Flexible Homelessness Support Grant of £172k and a Homelessness Reduction Grant of £263k.
Therese Coffey said: “The Homelessness Reduction Act, which the Conservatives brought in in the last Parliament is starting to have a real impact on the ground and this Government is determined to carry that on, to help the most vulnerable in our society and break the cycle of homelessness.”
Therese added: “The reasons for homelessness are often very complex with addiction playing a huge part – so much so that some individuals affected will simply not engage or accept accommodation. It’s really important that we do everything we can to persuade homeless people to come inside and stay inside, which is why I’m delighted that East Suffolk Council has invested in street outreach workers and a mental health practitioner to help support those in need – and this further funding will have a big impact.”
