Therese has pressed the case again with the Post Office to reinstate the Kelsale outreach service. She was speaking during a delegated legislation committee about the Post Office network subsidy cap which is due to rise from £500m to £750m. Primarily to deal with providing redress for the victims of the Horizon scandal – with £50m of that subsidy to safeguard services in the uncommercial part of the network.
Therese said: “I was pleased to be part of the committee that signed off more funds to pay compensation to postmasters affected by Horizon. As part of the debate, I also called for more transparency around how the Post Office uses its £50m government subsidy to help protect rural services, which is not working for many of my constituents.”
Not only have the Post Office switched some of our rural outreach services to a mobile van, they’re also reducing the places that are served. My ask of them is to add a simple stop in Kelsale for an hour a week, where the previous outreach service conducted good numbers of transactions.”
Therese added: “Although the Post Office have previously been quite intransient on this, I’m determined to keep up my campaign and I’m pleased that the Business Secretary, Kemi Badenoch, has given me her commitment that she’ll also raise this directly with the Post Office.”
