Therese has welcomed the news that a section of the River Deben at Waldringfield has now been classified as a designated bathing water site. The Suffolk Coast & Heaths location has been identified following a period of national consultation will be added to the list of bathing waters before the beginning of the 2023 bathing season.
This means the Environment Agency will regularly take samples during the season - which runs between 15 May and 30 September. Bathing waters are classified annually as Excellent, Good, Sufficient or Poor, based on an assessment of the water quality, with the information published on the Environment Agency’s Swimfo site.
Therese said: “So many people enjoy this particular stretch of the Deben, with well over a hundred swimmers here often during the summer. It’s right, therefore, that they get the signage and the regular testing to enable the Environment Agency to take swift action if needed.”
