Therese has today welcomed the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, published by the NHS and backed by £2.4bn of additional Government funding to create the education and training places required for the future.
The plan commits to doubling the number of medical school training places, with more places in areas of the country with the greatest shortages; doubling the number of adult nurse training places and increasing the number of GP places by 50%.
Therese said: “As we celebrate 75 years of the NHS, this new long-term plan is absolutely critical in ensuring the success of our health service into the future, building on the Plan for Patients I launched when I was Secretary of State last autumn. Crucially for Suffolk, as well as the massive increase in training places for doctors and nurses it also commits to expanding dental training places by 40%.”
“I also welcome the range of measures introduced not just to recruit but also to retain staff with better prospects for career development, more flexibilities around pensions and support for childcare.”
