The NHS in Suffolk and Essex are inviting people to share their views on a proposal to create an elective care centre in Colchester for patients who need planned orthopaedic surgery such as hip and knee replacements.
Therese said: "This is one of the consequences of the merger of the Ipswich & Colchester hospitals but it should produce a better outcome for patients with fewer cancellations. I am conscious that this will be further for patients and their families to travel and I will be making that point formally in the consultation. Patients will be aware that they can also opt to go to other hospitals but I expect that will not be necessary for most patients in Suffolk Coastal."
