The Environment Agency has pledged to take action to relieve flooding on the B1127 near Southwold following representations made by Suffolk Coastal MP, Therese Coffey. Dr Coffey contacted the Environment Agency’s Area Director, Simon Hawkins in response to concerns raised by constituents about excess water at Potters Bridge. She is also trying to get the EA to expedite the works.
Therese said: “The Environment Agency have informed me that their field operations team will be visiting the site of the Easton Broad outfall at the end of this month to carry out an inspection and plan the required works, with a view to undertaking clearance of the channel in November. Whilst I’m pleased they have committed to finding a solution, I am lobbying them to act much more quickly.”
“The work is also subject to permission from the landowner to agree and give access to the site.”
Once accesses have been granted and the works completed, the Environment Agency should then be able to implement a clearance regime as and when required.
