Therese has welcomed the news that Barclays Banks has announced that they will keep all their remote or ‘last-intown’ branches open for at least the next two years. This commitment applies to 105 branches in England and Wales including their Southwold and Leiston branches in Suffolk Coastal.
Dr Coffey said: ‘This is really good news from Barclays. I have fought a long campaign to try to get banks to think about the communities they serve, to stop banks closing branches in the rural towns of Suffolk Coastal and to protect vital services for all sectors of our community, especially elderly residents and local businesses.
Therese added: ‘I also welcome Barclays plans to launch local campaigns, called Your Bank, to work with customers and communities where branch usage has fallen to increase demand to help make these branches viable for the future. I urge everyone to take this opportunity to use the local branches we still have.’
