Therese Backs Campaign to Prevent Accidental Drownings this Summer

Therese is backing the Mineral Products Association's campaign to warn young people about the risks of swimming in lakes andformer quarries in Suffolk.

Before the summer holidays the MPA wrote to schools in close proximity to quarries in Suffolk Coastal, identified as presenting a possible risk to members of the public.

Therese said: "During the summer holidays it is inevitable that more people will be tempted to swim or mess around in open water that may be hazardous to them. We have seen across the country that what young people often see as harmless fun can end in tragic circumstances."

Therese added: "I'm pleased that the MPA is warning our school children against the risks of unauthorised open water swimming which could lead to 'cold water shock' and accidental drowning and I urge parents and our young people to make sure they stay safe"
