Barclays Banks have announced today that their Saxmundham Branch is due to close on September 29th.
Therese said: "Despite assurances received bin 2014, that Barclays Bank had no plans to shut down any of their 7 branches in Suffolk Coastal, I was disappointed to learn this morning that their Saxmundham branch is due to close".
Although HSBC still operate in the town, this decision by Barclays will come as a bitter blow to customers who rely on this vital service, especially elderly residents and local businesses. I have asked to meet Kathryn Kitson, Community Banking Director for Norfolk & Suffolk to discuss, although Barclays have already assured me that everyday transactions (including paying in a cheque or depositing cash), can also be completed at the Post Office in Saxmundham."
The closure means the nearest Barclays branch will be in Leiston.
